What are the most important websites for a trip to Iceland???
Iceland is a particularly exciting destination, where most certainly do not just fly there, but are well informed beforehand about the country, climate and conditions on the ground. Fortunately, there are some good websites that offer valuable information for the trip. We have mostly used the following sites for our travel planning.
This website provides general safety-related information, such as road closures or warnings.
A very good information site about the status of almost all roads. Road closures and other events are listed here in detail. An absolute must for everyone who wants to explore Iceland by car besides the well developed ring road.
Website with current weather forecasts and warnings. Partially subdivided specifically for individual regions.
Website with general information about Iceland, which is great for planning and preparing your trip.
Highly recommended website with a very detailed and accurate map of Iceland. Mostly even better than e.g. Google Maps.
112
It’s not a website, but certainly good to know: The emergency number for police, fire and ambulance services is 112. There is even an app (112 Iceland) with which you can make an emergency call including your own position.
Other
For photographers and other interested people I would like to mention the blog photographingiceland.is, which has some good information and tips for photographers.
Which websites do you use? Please write in the comments which websites you know and use for a visit to Iceland. Thanks in advance!
